about our MANCHESTER Walking tours…
‘Free Manchester Walking Tours’ offers three main ways to explore the city:
Manchester’s daily 11am tips-based free walking tour,
an LGBT+ Gay Village walking tour,
private experiences for groups and special events.
We are the original ‘free’ walking tour of Manchester, founded in 2015 by Josh.
Josh is a working playwright and public historian, with a History MA specialising in Manchester’s history.
Today, we are a small team of Mancunian storytellers and one of the top-rated experiences in all of Manchester.
DAILY FREE WALKING TOUR: THE STORY OF MANCHESTER

Meeting point: Alan Turing Memorial, Sackville Gardens
Length: 3 hours, including a short break

We run all year, in all weather.
This ‘free’ Manchester tour is ideal for your first day.
Join us to discover Manchester’s top-attractions - as well as hidden gems only known by our native English-speaking Mancunian guides.
This is an entertaining and informative adventure that includes something for everyone - whether you’re a new visitor, or familiar with the city.
Plus the tour offers fantastic photo opportunities, the chance to meet new people, and all our guests are offered our unique list of insider recommendations.
The tips-based tour tour uniquely combines major landmarks (e.g. Manchester Town Hall, the Royal Exchange Theatre, John Rylands Library) alongside lesser-known legends (such as era-defining nightclubs, street art, and a monument to Vimto).
Our expert storytellers share Manchester’s history and modern culture in an entertaining way that is easy to follow. You’ll have a small taste test, hear the sound of Manchester bands, and get a local guide’s honest recommendations such as on where to eat, drink and dance!
The tour is fully wheelchair accessible and suitable for all ages: solo travellers, couples, families and even dogs are welcome.
You do NOT need to book for the 11am free tour if you are a small group (eight people or fewer). Just look for the guide in the blue coat with the Free Manchester Walking Tours logo by the Alan Turing Memorial. Larger groups and school trips should contact us in advance so we can look after you properly.
